Brandsford Scott "B.S." West, 92, Union, died Sunday, September 7, 1997.
Mrs West was born in Oak Hill March 23, 1905, the son of the late William West and wife Fannie Ryerson West. He received his schooling in Oak Hill and grew up in that community.
On September 4, 1926, he was united in marriage to Mayme P. Bindner at Bourbon by Father Lakebrink. Two children were born to this marriage. For many years they made their home in Spring Bluff.
West was farmer in Spring Bluff for many years and also was an auctioneer for 41 years. He was very active in his community as a member of the Spring Bluff school board, charter member of the Crawford Electric Cooperative and was the first president of the Franklin County Farm Bureau.
Upon retirement in 1973, the couple moved to Union to make their home. West assisted in starting "The Old-Timers Band" and enjoyed playing the fiddle and traveling with the band to senior citizens centers and nursing homes throughout the county.
West was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Union.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mayme West, November 22, 1989; one great-grandson, Bradley Kroeter, November, 1996, one sister, Mamie Osborn; and two brothers, Alva West and John West.
West is survived by one son, George West, Union; one daughter, Gladyne Koelling and husband Edgar, union; one sister, Essie Bell, Boubon; and one brother, Elza West, Cuba ; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 10, at Oltmann Funeral Home, Union, with Rev. Peter Blake officiating. Interment was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Union.
