Transcript of obituary in The Souhtern Aegis, dated June 20, 1917:

'J.H. Sheffield died at his home at Ford School house Sunday afternoon at 3:20 o'clock. The funeral was held at Hopewell church Monday afternoon. Rev. Flood conducting the service. Interment at Hopewell cemetery. Mr. Sheffield was 72 years old and leaves a wife and nine children.'
