My wife, CherylAnn Tsourianis Fullilove, was a proud native of Massachusetts. Although she lived more of her life down south, she never forgot her roots. She was born in Woburn, MA, but grew up in Marlborough, MA, about 26 miles out west of Boston. Her father was of Greek and Irish heritage and her mother was Italian and Portuguese. Her grandparents were immigrants who came to America through Ellis Island in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Cheryl always said that the Greek and Italian made a "fiery" combination and joked that she was a "Greecie Italian".
When Cheryl was 17 years old she left home for good and came to Austin, TX, where she met me (Jim Fullilove), her future husband. In 1976 we both gave our lives to Jesus Christ and soon after moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. On February 26, 1978, we were married. We never had children of our own, a fact that made Cheryl very sad, but she always loved them and this led her to complete her GED and go to College to train to be a teacher. Cheryl was an excellent student, and made the President's Honor list on several occasions. She graduated from Mississippi Coast Community College and continued her education at The University of Southern Mississippi (Gulf Park Campus). In the early 1990's she began working as a substitute teacher with Kelly Services, Inc., in Gulfport. Cheryl also served as a Sunday School and Children's Church teacher.
Cheryl never lost her interest in learning new things. In 1979 she befriended a young deaf girl and immediately began learning sign language. After Hurricane Katrina brought a huge increase in the Hispanic population here on the Coast, she started trying to learn as much Spanish as she could.
Cheryl loved people and was very outgoing in her neighborhood and comminity. She organized our local neighborhood watch and was always the first person to greet a new neighbor on our block.
Cheryl loved animals and was a great supporter of the ASPCA. She always had a dog or cat on her lap or at her side.
Cheryl struggled with illness most of her life but she never backed down from life's challenges. Her personal theme song was Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down". At the end she was surrounded by family and friends who were singing praise songs as she passed into eternity...
