Esther E. Spaits, 74, Kansas City, KS died Thursday, February 11, 1999, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 15th, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Kansas City, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice.
Mrs. Spaits was born March 12, 1924, in Four Town, MN. She had lived in the Kansas City, KS area since 1953.
Esther was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the International Rose O'Neil Club; Jay-Kweps of Kansas; Bonniebrook Historical Society; Johnson County Doll Society; Scandinavian Women's Society; Facklan Lodges of the Vasa Order; Scandinavian Folk-Dancers; Sons of Norway and the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum.
Preceded in death by her husband, Richard O Spaits, in 1995.
Survivors include two sons; Gary Spaits, Shawnee, KS, and Gerald Spaits, Kansas City, MO. a daughter; Gail Spaits, Kansas City, KS.; two brothers, Dennis Hanson, Prior Lake, MN. and Michael Hanson, Portland, OR; two sisters, Dolores Stuart, Boise, ID. DIane Wright, Portland, OR; Grandson, Carl Dean Spaits, Kansas City, KS. Granddaughter, Paula Hague, Gardner, KS; four great-grandchildren.
In recent years, Esther made two trips to Norway, one with her brother; Dennis, and the second trip with her sister; Dolores. During both trips she was able to see and explore the island of Donnna in northern Norway where her father; Ivar and his family lived until they immigrated to the United States in 1902 when Ivar was only 6 years old.
