Richard Brigham Young was called home on December 20, 2008. He was born on November 19, 1938, in Coalville, Utah, the only son of Wesley Brigham Young and Blanche Robinson Young.
Richard served a two-year misson for the LDS church in the west central states. He attended Weber State University on a basketball scholarship and graduated from
BYU with a degree in education. He also received his Master's degree plus 60 hours from ASU.
Richard married Connie Christensen his bride of 47 years and together they had four children; Lorie, Debbie, Brent and Kristie.
He retired from Westwood High School in Mesa after almost 30 years of teaching history, driver's education and home and family courses.
Richard and Connie served missions together at the LDS Mesa Arizona Temple, and Family History Center for many years.
Richard is survived by his wife, Connie, four children and 19 grandchildren.
Richard's joy was his wonderful family which includes Mesa residents Lorie and Ladd Stewart and their daughters Allie and Madison; Debbie and Jeff Brown and their children Dale, who is serving a mission in Fiji, Demaree, Danielle Jake, Jeremy and Jaren; and Kristie and Jeffrey Fairbanks and their children Braiden, Jacob, Wesley, Michael, Autumn and Summer. Their son Brent and wife Anna reside in Tennessee with children Regan, Joshua, Sydney, Ty and Zoe.
A viewing will take place on Friday, December 26, at Melcher's Mission Chapel, 6625 East Main, from 6:30 to 8:20 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, December 27 at 10:00 a.m. with a viewing at 8:30 a.m. at the LDS Boulder Creek Stake Center located at 3025 S. Hawes, south of Guadalupe. Interment will be at the Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery, Mesa, Arizona.
