EARL F. LEHMANN
Funeral services for Earl F. Lehmann, 83, were held Monday morning, Feb. 15 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Monticello, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Hannemann officiated at the services.
Earl F. Lehmann of Monticello died Friday, Feb. 12, at St. luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. He was born in Castle Grove Township, the son of Fred and Rena Arnold Lehmann. He received his education in the rural schools near his home, and later worked on area farms.
On Dec. 14, 1933, he married Celena Stahlberg at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Monticello where he drove a truck for Jones County. They operated Lehmann's Dairy for five years and later worked 15 years at Shomont Dairy, where he worked as an ice cream maker. He later worked at Energy Manufacturing, retiring in 1977. In addition to his fulltime jobs, Lehman managed the Monte Theater, did custodial work at the Monticello State Bank and Cuckler Buildings. He also did snow removal, mowed lawns and plowed gardens.
He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and also belonged to the Lasso E Camper club and the Driftbusters.
Survivors include his wife; a son, John F. Reid Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; six daughters; Lorna Davis, Janis Toenjes, and Junelle Benter, all of Monticello; Lyda DeShaw of Anamosa, Jeryl Bacon of Hopkinton and LaVerle Kyarsgaard of Sterling, Ill.; 20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Ida Mulford of Janesville and Laura Hinrichs of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son; a grandson and a brother.
Casket bearers were Kevin Davis, Brad DeShaw, Curtis Earl Bacon, Charles F. Bacon, Ryan Toenjes, Kristopher Kyarsgaard, Nicholas Kyarsgaard and Brett Benter.
Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
