Thr Rev. Alvin Lee Johnston, founder of Colombus Pentecostal Church, of 1047 Vineville St., Columbus, died Wednesday at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta. He was 64.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pentecostal Tabernacle, with burial in Parkhill Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel.

Rev. Johnston was born Oct. 16, 1911, in Yazoo county, Ms., son of Mr. and Mrs. James Edward Johnston.

He was a Veteran of World War 11, pastor of Pentecostal Church of God in Columbus, which he organized in 1949, and was former district superintendent and district secretary for Georgia for the Pentecostal of God. He built the Pentecostal Tabernacle and its parsonage and helped build several other churches and one Church of God Campground.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lola W. Johnston; daughters, Mrs. Janell Richter, Junction City, Mrs. Renee Lance, Houston, Texas; sons, Ronnie Lee Johnston, Ft. Pierce Florida and Kenneth Dean Johnston, Huntsville, Ala.; sisters, Mrs. Louvenia Overby of Jackson, Ms., Mrs. Ruby Moore, of Birmingham, Ala.; brothers, Sam Johnston, of Mobile, Ala., Luther, Hugh, A. Q.Johnston, all of Jackson, Ms.; and six grandchildren.
