Ref: The Carthage Republican, Carthage, IL, 29 Apr. 1903 -- Alfred Earnest Barnard died at his home near Adrain, Monday, 20 April 1903, aged 60-7-5. Deceased was born at Brockville, Canada on 14 Jul. 1842. He was left parentless at the age of 19 when he left his parents in his native country and arrived in Hancock Co., IL.

He was married to Mary H. Alston on 28 May 1867. They had 4 children, Mrs. T. B. Long, Mrs. Tot Lionberger, sons, George Earnest and William Grover. two sisters in Canada and a host of friends and relatives survive. Mr. Barnard was a strong supporter of W. J. Bryan and democracy. The funeral services will be held at the Christian Church Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
