Son of David and Fanny (Colbert) Taylor. Born in Virginia, and left Maryland in October of 1833, coming to Illinois with a man by the name of Joseph Henchy. they came in wagons and were 42 days on the road. He commence work three-fourths of a mile east of Greenville and made his home there for 3 years. Attended first school taught in Greenville. He hired out for aboout five years beofre he was married. He worked for Andrew Williams, John Sterling, Willard Twist, and John West. His first marriage was to Luranah Sterling, his second to Mary Ann Wiliams and his third to Pheboe Jane Satterly. His fouth marriage was to Mrs. Amanda Stubblefield. John Henry lived about 2 12 miles NE of Pleasant Mound, where he lived for 50 years. He was buried next to his first three wives and three of his children.
