Einer R. Anderson, 92, passed away March 28, 2008, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Adeline Anderson; by his wife of 59 years, Margaret Anderson; and his daughter-in-law, Leanna Anderson. He is survived by his sister, Mildred Van der Slice, of California; his daughter, Sandra Sheperd, and son-in-law, Edwin Sheperd, of Eden Prairie; and his son, John Anderson, and grandson, Matthew Anderson, of Greeley, Colo.
Einer was born in Crosby and grew up in Cuyuna. He graduated from the Crosby-Ironton High School. During World War II, Einer served as a pilot in the Army Air Forces in the China-Burma-India theater. He was employed by the Crow Wing County Highway Department for 20 years. Einer was then elected as Crow Wing County auditor, a position he held for 23 years. Einer participated in a number of service organizations, among which were the Brainerd Rotary Club, Crow Wing County Historical Society, YMCA, Boy Scouts of America, Elks, American Legion and others.
Einer was an avid outdoorsman who traveled to the Arctic, canoed and hiked the BWCA, helped with the creation of French Rapids ski area and enjoyed the woods and water at Pelican Lake.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Lutheran Church of the Cross, Nisswa, with Pastor Joan Gunderman officiating. Visitation, at the church, will be an hour and a half prior to the service. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 1647 of Brainerd.
Memorials are preferred to the Elks Youth Camp or the Boy Scouts of America.
Funeral arrangements are with the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home of Brainerd.
