Military: Enlisted 12 July 1864, Union Army, Co.K,78th N.Y. Infantry Regiment, Transfered to 102nd N.Y. Infantry. Mustered out 2 June 1865 at Blandenburg, Maryland. He had two brothers who also served in the Civil War. He filed for his pension in 1886 from Iowa.

In civilian life Oscar was a farmer. He lived in Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota. He married Rebecca Burnett in 1876 and they had 4 known children; Nettie Bell, William Albert, Elnora Elizabeth and George Oscar.

Oscar Batterson died Sunday at
the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eldridge
Heath at Chester. He was ill
only 5 days, pneumonia being the
cause of his death.
Mr. Batterson was born February
28, 1846, at Coplin, Ohio. He was
an old soldier and a member of the
G. A. R. When sloghty over sixteen
years of age, he enlisted in Co. K
102nd New York, and he was one of
seven in his company who survived
the battle of Antietam. He and
the remaining six were then transferred
Co. K, 87th New York, and he
served in that company until the
close of the war. There are two
sons and two daughters surviving.
They are George Batterson of Racine,
Wis., Albert of Chester, Mrs
Nettie Schnorr of Mason City, Iowa,
and Mrs. C. E. Heath of Chester.
Mrs. Batterson died several years
ago. An aged mother also survives.
She is 91 years of age. The following
are also bereft: Mrs. Jennie C.
Frizell, A. L. Batterson. and W. H.
Batterson, of Nora Springs, Iowa,
Mrs. J. E. Sheppard of West Concord,
Minn., and Mrs. Nettie Kuhn
of Ashland. Wis.
