He was the son of the late John and Frances (Barnhart) Gnass. He was a World War II Veteran having served in the United States Army. Russell was proud of his work as an Industrial Electrical Engineer. He was well known in his career and respected by his peers. Upon retirement he enjoyed living with his wife Jacquelyn in the home he designed and built on beautiful Burt Lake in Northern Michigan. Many days he could be found in his Boston Whaler, fishing pole in hand pursuing his favorite hobby; angling for Walleye.

Russell enjoyed a long, full life and was loved my so many. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by wife, Jacquelyn Burch Gnass; sons, Karl and Stephen Gnass, step-children Cynthia Chambers, Nancy Chambers and Marsh Dawson; 1 granddaughter and 3 step-grandchildren and a brother Vernon Gnass. His parents and 4 siblings predeceased him.
