Mrs. Gerald (Johanna) Klaasen, 71, of 2311 Pine Grove, New Era, died Monday, Jan. 23, in an area nursing home, following a lingering illness. Mrs. Klaasen was born in Graafschap, lived in Detroit for 30 years and had moved to New Era in 1970. She was a member of New Era Christian Reformed Church, the Golden Hour Society and Dorcas Society. Surviving are her husband, Gerald; two sons, Terry John Klaasen of Jackson and Kenneth Paul Klaasen of La Canada, Calif.; a daughter, Gretchen Sue Klaasen of Woods Hole, Mass.; four grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Gilbert (Jessie) Bos of Holland; a brother-in-law, Oliver Peterson of Grand Rapids; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Henry Bast of Grand Rapids. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Notier-VerLee-Langland Chapel with the Rev. Ronald J. Noorman officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to p p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
