Bill was a member of the 1969 graduating Class of Concord High School, Concord, North Carolina. He was the class president. He served on the Senior Class Executive Council. He was the Junior class president and a member of the Student Council. Bill was involved in all manner of sports at which he excelled. He played in the Shrine Bowl. While in High School he was a member of the Interact Club. In his senior year, he received the male superlative as Best All Round Student.
Bill Hollingsworth was lost at sea during an outing off the Cape Fear River in North Caroling.

Hollingsworth was last seen in Oak Island, North Carolina in November 1981. He left the island in a twelve-foot canoe to set up gill nets in the Frying Pan Shoals area south of Bald Head Island. He got caught in a storm on the water and never returned. An extensive search turned up no sign of him, and he is presumed to have drowned.
