Services for Howard Smith Hackett, 80, of Palestine were held at 3 p.m. March 17, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Monsignor Zack officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Creek Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey and Foster, Palestine.

Mr. Hackett died Sunday March 14, 2010 at his residence.
He was born April 6, 1929 in Reagan, Texas to Robert Jackson and Rosa Mae Wier Hackett. Mr. Hackett was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a self employed carpenter. He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Hackett was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Hattie Shipp, Annie Brenniger, Christine Kluth and Barbara Keeling; three brothers, Ben Hackett, Charley Hackett and Clark Hackett.

He is survived by his wife Joe Ella Hackett of Palestine; daughters Juana McMillen and husband Dewey of Grapeland, Paula Glenn and husband Randall of Elkhart, Pamela Bourassa of Sugar Land; sons Mark Bourassa and wife Crystal of Longview, David Bourassa and wife Herlinda of San Antonio; brothers James Mark Hackett of Elkhart, Rollon Hackett of Channnnelview, and Cecil Hackett of Livingston; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were David Bunch, Cliff Moore, Buddy Hackett, Eric Murphy, Michael McCurley and Zac Hogard. Honorary pallbearers were Donald Dressell, Tony Dressell and James Mark Hackett.
