John was the Son of John Dillard Cook and Mary Jane Mothershead, Brother of Colonel Nathaniel Cook and Brother of Daniel P. Cook who's son had the County of Cook in Illinois named after him, married Sarah Kiddleton Taylor, Cousin of Zachary Taylor in 1814, and moved to Ste. Gen. County Missouri ,delegate to Missouri State Convention. Appointed one of supreme judges of Missouri upon the organization of the state, August 12,1821, which office He resigned in 1823, was appointed circuit judge of the 10th circuit court, this office he held until General Zachary Taylor was elected President, He was then appointed United State 's Attorney for Missouri and held that position until His death in 1852Justice of the Missouri State Supreme Court, U.S. District Attorney for Missouri from 1850 to 1852.
