Effie is the daughter of Douglas and Naomi Bradley Nowlin. She married Herbert Walter Cochran in 1915.

Mrs. Herbert (Effie M. Nowlin) Cochran, 84, of 980 W. Mound Road died 10:28 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 8, 1978) in Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, with visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Cochran was born in Long Creek, daughter of Douglas and Naomi Nowlin. She was a 4-H leader for 14 years and a member of Mound Chapel Church of God. She married Herbert Cochran in 1915. He died in 1973.
Surviving are sons, Herbert W. and Jack A., both of Decatur; daughter, Mrs. LeRoy (Irma) Bell of Decatur; brothers, Denver Nowlin of Minnesota; Verne Nowlin of California; sisters, Mrs. Pearl Dawson and Mrs. Golden Gustin, both of Decatur; Mrs. Harold (Mary) Klinghammer and Mrs. Richard (Ruby) Ryan, both of Mattoon; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren preceded her in death.
