John A. Brozak, 65, of Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 16, 2010.

He was born January 28, 1945, in Crystal Falls, son of the late John and Bertha (Franz) Brozak. John graduated from Crystal Falls High School, Class of 1963. He attended Northern Michigan University where he completed one year of college.

John worked for a short period of time at the AO Smith Co., Milwaukee, before serving in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After being discharged from the Navy, John worked briefly again at AO Smith Co. He married the former Pat Marusich on February 15, 1969, in Marquette. They resided in Marquette for a little over a year. While in Marquette, John worked for the State of Michigan Licensing Bureau as branch manager. He later worked in Iron Mountain, Watersmeet, and Iron River for the State of Michigan, retiring in 2002, after 34 years.

John was an avid outdoorsman who had a deep love for fishing, hunting, and trapping. He also enjoyed listening to a good polka song while drinking his morning cup of coffee, giving personal tours of the backwaters on his pontoon boat, picking blueberries, mowing lawn, cutting wood, and taking a leisurely drive in his truck on a sunny day with his wife, Pat.

He was an active member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls, American Legion Post No. 87, and the East Side Veterans Council. For many years, John served as Chief Financial Officer for both the American Legion and the East Side Veterans Council. He looked forward to marching in the community parades and setting out flags every Memorial Day to honor his fellow comrades.

John was loved and admired by many. He was always the first person to greet you with a kind "hello" and the last person to leave after a long visit. He loved spending time with his boys John, Jim, and Joe, and playing with his grandchildren, Owen and McKenzie.

He taught his friends and family many life lessons which will continue to shape our lives …how to love life and your fellow man…how a kind gesture can go far in brightening someone's day…and how giving enriches your life much more than receiving.

John will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the community.

John is survived by his loving wife, Pat; three sons, John (Britt), Crystal Falls, James (Christina), Pulaski, Wis., and Joseph (Laura Urban) Brozak, Crystal Falls; one brother, Dennis (Kitty) Brozak, Crystal Falls; two sisters, Jacki (Bob) Tomlinson, Crystal Falls and Mission, Tex., Carrol ("JB") McCollough, Edgewater, Md.; two grandchildren, Owen and McKenzie Brozak; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
