US Diplomat, Businessman. A San Francisco native, he went to work for the Crown Zellerbach Corporation, originally founded by his grandfather, after his graduation from the University of California in 1913. In 1938 he became president of the company, serving until his resignation in 1956. In 1948 Zellerbach was appointed Director of the Marshall Plan in Italy, and from 1956 to 1960 he served as United States Ambassador to Italy.
