Services for Earl Bender were held in the First Methodist Church in Eastland. He was well known throughout this area as an abstractor and insurance man in Eastland. He moved with his parents to DeLeon as a young man. He moved to Carbon in 1905. He graduated from Carbon Schools in 1909 and went to the University of Texas in the summer. In the fall of 1909, he taught school at Pleasant Hill. In 1910 he went to Tyler Commercial College. He taught school at Hankins Normal in Gorman for three years. He went to the University of Texas in the summer of 1912 and stayed there for five years, graduating in June 1917. He entered the US Army on 21 September 1917 and was in the 345th Field Artillery, spending two years in England, France, and Germany. He returned home on 19 June 1919. He was commander of the American Legion Post in Eastland from 1920 to 1921 and joined the Rotary Club in February 1920. He served on the Eastland Commission for four years from 1926 to 1930. He is a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, having served on the Board of Stewards and was church treasurer for 23 years. Mr. Bender went into the abstract business in 1923 and went into the insurance business in 1926. He married Willie Kathryn Arnold in 1922. Survived by his wife; two daughters - Mrs. Pat Miller, Mrs. John T. Goode; eight grandchildren; one brother - I.C. Bender.
