Floyd DeWilde, 83, Ruthton, died Nov. 19, 2005 at his home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 22 at the American Reformed Church, Woodstock, with Rev. Carl Gearhart officiating.

Casket bearers were Michelle and Chris Moosey, Derrick and Becky DeWilde, Ryan and Julie DeWilde, Melissa DeWilde; Kyle and Heather DeWilde, Bryce DeWilde, Renee and Justin Kroschell, Erin and Jason Matthies, Adam and Tracy Hansen and Amy and Craig Nelson.

Military honors were provided by Earl Gruis American Legion Post #534, Holland.

Interment was in the Holland Cemetery, Holland.

Floyd DeWilde was born to Herman and Etta (Tammen) DeWilde on Sept. 4, 1923 on a farm near Boyden, Iowa where he was raised and attended country school in Sheridan Township.

In March 1939 he moved with his parents to Ruthton where he continued his education. After his graduation from Ruthton High School in 1940 he helped on the family farm.

On Oct. 14, 1944 he entered the U.S. Army and served in Korea during WWII. After his discharge from the service on Nov. 8, 1946 he returned to the family farm.

He married Edna Tinklenberg on Feb. 27, 1947 in Edgerton. Following their marriage they lived and farmed on the family farm in Aetna Township.

Floyd was an active member of the American Reformed Church where he sang in the church choir and served as a deacon and an elder. He was also a member of the Earl Gruis American Legion Post 534 in Holland and was currently serving as post commander; he had been a member of the Pipestone Toastmasters Club; charter member of the Ruthton Lions Club and he had served on the Ruthton School Board. For the past 12 years he did volunteer mission work for the "Justice For All" organization. For over 40 years he was a DeKalb Seed representative.

He is survived by his wife, Edna, Ruthton; four children, Earl (Sherry) DeWilde, Holland; Elaine (Raymond) Hansen, Luverne; Verlyn (Barb) DeWilde, Ruthton and Gloria (Loren) Kassel, Dawson; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Louis Brouwer.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Esther Brouwer and his son-in-law, Alan Veldhuizen.
