Grover Lee was the son of Clarence David and Letha Pearl (Dixon) Hawkins. He served with the US Army Air Force during World War II. Grover married Alverta "Bertie" Pugh on Sep 8, 1946 in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. They had two children: Thelma Ray and Ronald Lee. He and his brother Thornton were building contractors in the Columbia, Boone County, Missouri area. Grover Lee was active in the community serving on the Columbia Board of Appeals, Parks and Recreation Commission, Planning and Zoning Appeals Board and the Alpha House.
