_Died at her home near Mark, Iowa, February 1, 1907. Aroled Spurgeon, aged 90 years, 5 months and 12 days.
_She was born in Stokes county, North Carolina, August 19, 1816, and came with her parents to Indiana during childhood. Her maiden name was Aroled Carter, was married to W. J. Spurgeon, December 7, 1834. To the union was born eight children, five of whom survive. A husband and three children have passed to the other shore to await her coming.
_In the direct line of her descendants, eight children, twenty-four grand-children, fifty-seven great grand-children, and seven great great-grand-children were born.
Grandma, although frail, enjoyed good health and sound mind, loved to tell incidents of her past life until about four months ago when she was stricken with paralysis, and has bore great suffering until Friday at 4:30 when she quietly and peacefully passed away.
_The funeral services were conducted by Elder Burglar. The remains were laid to rest in the Hopkins cemetery.
