THE PARIS NEWS, 4 Feb 1964: 'W. J. (Bill) Amis, 52, died Tuesday about 5:30 p.m. shortly after admittance to L.P. McCuistion Hospital, following a heart attack at his home, 928 20th SE. Mr. Amis, a salesman for the O&S Wholesale Company of Texarkana, had suffered an earlier attack some time ago while in Texarkana. He was a member of the family formerly long engaged in the wholesale produce business here. The funeral Thursday at 2:30 p.m., will be held in Fry and Gibbs chapel, by the Rev. Glendell Jones of First Methodist Church, interment to be made in Evergreen Cemetery. Son of Otis D. Amis, Sr. and the former Bettie Mann, Bill Amis was born in Meeker, Okla., 24 Feb 1911, the family moving here about 1933. He married Miss Maralene Lummus of Paris, 7 May 1939, and she survives, besides his mother, a son, Bill Amis, Jr. and a brother, O.D. Amis, all of Paris, and these sisters: Mrs. Elton LeHew, Guthrie, Okla.; Mrs. William Hale, Paris; Mrs. Earl Castleberry, Dallas, and Mrs. Keith McMillin, Oklahoma City, Okla. Mr. Amis attended schools in Shawnee, Okla., also New Mexico Military Institute at Roswell, and Oklahoma A&M College (now University) at Stillwater. He was associated with his late father in the Amis Produce Company here, before his connection with the Texarkana firm. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, belonging also to the Builders Class of First Methodist Church and the Travelers Protective Association of Texas.'
