Thornton Samuel was the son of Clarence and Leatha Pearl (Dixon) Hawkins. He married Lorene Perrigo, daughter of Raymond and Betty Fayne (South)Perrigo on 28 Sep 1940 in Columbia, Boone County, Missouri. Thornton served in the US Navy during World War II. He & Lorene had 5 children: Glenda Joyce, Kenneth Ray, Phyllis Jean(infant death), Carol Ann and Keith Wayne. Thornton and his brother Grover Lee were building contractors in the Columbia area. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 280.
