Levi was the son of Levi Lewis and Mary Beemer. He married Mary Pettit, daughter of Jonathan Isaac Pettit and Margaret Henry, on January 7, 1834, in Grimsby Township. They were the parents of George Franklin Lewis and Sarah Catherine Lewis.
