Stanley served in the Navy during WWII.

Stanley, Virginia and their two sons, Roger and Jim, lived in Farmingdale, New York until they moved to Dayton, Ohio so Stanley could work for his brother-in-law, Richard "Chick" Cooper, who was employed by the Long Island Company that had won the bid to build Page Manor (military housing for Wright Patterson Air Force Base). After the Page Manor project was completed, Stanley and his family, along with the Cooper's, remained in Dayton.

Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; and his youngest son, James Szczep and is survived by his eldest son, Roger of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; his grandchildren, Tina Hansen of Wisconsin and Nicole Vavek of Georgia, James Szczep of Cape Coral, FL and, Mike and Emily (Szczep) Manning of Cincinnati, OH; three great grandchildren, Tara Hansen, Caden Vavek, and Henry Manning; and his sister-in-law, Estelle Cooper Dixon. Stanley is buried in the "Phil & Gail" Stephens Family plots with his wife of 61 years who preceded him in death, Virginia; his brother-in-law, Richard "Chick" Cooper; his niece's husband, Phil Stephens and his mother, Millie Stephens; and his recently passed sister-in-law, Estelle Cooper-Dixon.
