2nd baronet, of Woollahra, New South Wales, Australia. He succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his father on June 5, 1902, and enjoyed the honour a little over seven years. He was educated at Wellington College, and in 1886 married Harriet, daughter of Sir James Grant-Suttle, Bart. There is one child of the marriage, a daughter, Dorothy, born in 1887, and married last year to Lieutenant H. S. J. Streatfield, of the Grenadier Guards, a nephew of the Earl of Litchfield. He was an enthusiastic sportsman and breeder. He was a member of the Australian Jockey Club, and his colours wore prominent on the Australian turf in the eighties. With Blairgowrie he won the A.J.C. Champagne Stakes, 1885, and Champion Stakes, 1886, and among the other horses he raced were Cheshari, Sorata, Argyle, Huntingtower, Bowmont, and Oceana. He resumed turf pursuits soon after his arrival in England, and since 1891 his name has figured on the winning list with the exception of four seasons—1898-7-8 and 9—his winnings totalling upwards of 57,000. He was a staunch supporter of the classic races, and captured the One Thousand Guineas, 1906, with Flair, a filly of his own breeding; while Flotsam carried his orange and white livery into third place in the Derby, 1905, won by Rock Sand. Sir Daniel was elected a member of the English Jockey Club in 1894, and was on the estate committee of the club up to the time of his death. He was succeeded by his brother, Mr. William Charles Cooper.
