Carl Eugene "Gene" Reynolds, 77, Mitchell, passed away at 3:55 a.m. Thursday at Bedford Regional Medical Center.

Born May 10, 1932, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Robert L. and Martha (Ball) Reynolds. He and his twin brother were reared in the home of his maternal grandparents, George and Mary Ball. On January 27, 1951, he married his childhood sweetheart, Eleda Madge Watterson.

Gene retired from Carpenter Body Works with 46 years of service and was also employed at Spring Mill State Park. He served 20 years on the Mitchell Community Schools Board of Trustees and attended Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bloomington.

He played basketball and baseball four years at Huron High School and graduated in 1950. His hobbies included gardening and plowing many gardens, carpentry, and woodworking.

A U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he served in the 300 Field Artillery — "Cowboy Cannoneers." He was a member of the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and the Honor Guard, and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Long time Army buddies of Gene's, Bryce Gehrmann, lives in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Jerry Hurta, is deceased.

Survivors include his wife, Eleda Madge Reynolds of Mitchell; a son, Danny Eugene Reynolds and wife Ada of Mitchell; a daughter, Janice Diane Reynolds of Mitchell; and a sister, Maxine Wright of Charlotte, N.C.

His parents; daughter, Martha Jean Reynolds; and twin brother, Paul Lee Reynolds, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Mitchell High School Auditorium.

A graveside service will at 10 a.m. Monday at Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
