Charles Napoleon Bernard died at Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, NH July 28, 1988 after a long illness. He was born on December 11, 1913 in St Johnsbury, VT; the son or Arthur Fremont and Mary Dina (Perron) Bernard.

He lived in Claremont for most of his life and attended St Mary school. He worked many years ago for the Connecticut Valley Electric Co, the Coca-Cola Bottling Co, and as a custodian for Barnes, Rouillard and McPherson Insurance Co. He retired in 1976 from the Bernard Trucking Co which he owned and operated for sixteen years due to ill health. He was a member of the Claremont Fire Department from 1943-1949, then became a call fireman and retired as captain of Engine II Co after forty years of service. He was also a deputy forest fire warden for many years.

He was active with the Cavalier's and the Athletic Association of St Mary School as well as a friend of soccer and a member of St Jean Baptist Society. He was a communicant of St Joseph Church, a member of the parish council, Father Cote Council No 1820, Father Cote Assembly No 0635 Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

He married Gabrielle LaPorte on September 7, 1936 in Claremont. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1986.

He was preceded in death by sons Donald and Charles.

He leaves his wife of Claremont; daughter Janet L Ruest of Claremont; son Raymond A Bernard of Claremont; seven grandchildren; two brothers Roland "Mike" Bernard of Casselberry, FL and Edward V Bernard of North Branford, CT; three sisters Joanne Knight of Claremont, Philomena Devoyd of Ocala, FL, and Mary Jane Baker of Windsor, VT; and one aunt.

Burial is in St Mary's Cemetery.
