Services for Ruth N. Burkett, of Monticello, were 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at Monticello Baptist Church with burial in Monticello Municipal Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Burkett, 90, died Aug. 29, 2007, at Lawrence County Hospital. She was born on July 12, 1917, to Murphy Monroe Neal and Settie King Neal.
She was retired from her work as a dietitian after 28 years of service with Monticello Elementary School. She was a faithful member of Monticello Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was a very good cook, and loved people. She took great enjoyment in doing for others.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Leotha Burkett; her son, Robert L. Burkett; and her six brothers and four sisters.
Survivors are her daughters, Betty B. Catt and husband Charles, of Monticello, Sara B. Laird and husband Fred, of D'Lo, and Shelia B. Bourn and husband Davis, of Monticello; her grandchildren, Phillip Catt and Rachel Davis, both of Monticello, Lisa Dunaway, of Madison, and Michael Laird, of Jackson; her great-grandchildren, Joseph Summers, Zachary Summers, Payton Davis and Alexis Lea, all of Monticello, and Jacob Dunaway, of Madison.
