He became a naturalized citizen of the USA in 1916. He was a horticulturist, a trade he learned in Denmark. He and Sophie had 2 children, Dorothy and Clifford. He adopted Sophie's daughter, Hazel. He moved to Solano Beach, CA. in his later years, where his daughter Dorothy lived.
