{{Christ Jacobsen, 83, of 1618 Clark Street, a veteran employee of the Manitowoc Ship Building Company, died early today at the Holy Family Hospital following a lingering illness.

Ever since he was a young man Mr. Jacobsen was employed in Manitowoc shipyards, and in recent years four of his sons have been employed in the yards. The highlight of his long years at the yards came Nov. 22, 1942, when his granddaughter, Mrs. Ruth Lyons, of Ottawa, Ill., christened the U.S. submarine Puffer when it was launched here. Mr. Jacobsen was born in Denmark in 1861 and came to Chicago at the age of 11 years. The following year he moved here with the Jacobsen family. In 1888 he married Miss Anna Burger. In 1938 Mr. and Mrs. Jacobsen observed their golden wedding anniversary.

He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for 60 years. He was a carpenter and caulker first at the old Burger Yards and later with the Manitowoc Ship Building Company.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Meta Bartel of Manitowoc; six sons, Christ Jr., John, Herman, George, Fred and Charles, all of Manitowoc; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The body will lie in state at the Pfeffer Funeral Home from 7 p.m. Saturday until time of services. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. P. N. Oklevik officiating. The I.O.O.F. will conduct services at the cemetery. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.}}
