Tom Zachry, 66, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010. Memorial service to celebrate Tom's life will be 3 p.m. Friday, March 26, at McKinney Memorial Bible Church, Ft. Worth. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.

Tom was born in Waco, Texas, to the late Woodie Moore Zachry and Dorris Frances Roberts Zachry. He graduated from Waco High School in 1961 and entered TCU the same year. Tom graduated with a BBA degree. He chose to pursue a career in law, like his father, who was a prominent attorney in Waco, entering Baylor Law School at age 20 in 1964.

Tom immediately began his legal career as an assistant district attorney in Tarrant County. In 1970, Tom entered private practice, later founding the firm Zachry, Kearney, Hill, Shaw, Beatty, Butcher and Gallagher. In 1981, he was recognized by the State Bar of Texas certifying him as a specialist by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in both criminal and family law.

Dual certification is an unheard of achievement enjoyed by only a handful of attorneys throughout the state. He was also AV-rated, the highest rating a lawyer can receive from the Martindale-Hubbel directory, indicating particularized legal ability and ethical practice. Tom was a past president of the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Earlier in March, Tom was elected judge by the Republican Party, as its candidate for the 432nd District Court. As there was no announced Democratic Party opponent, Tom would soon have retired from private practice and become a judge. Without question, Tom enjoyed a 43-year legal career of which most attorneys can only dream. Whether you knew him as "Tizzy" (the grandkids' favorite), "Z", "Zack" or "the Zach Attack," Tom had one speed, he was forever "all in" and embracing to the fullest this fragile existence we call life. He was a man of uncompromised passion.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Christine; and his sister, Linda.

Survivors are his college sweetheart, best friend and wife of 46 years, Marilyn; son, Cliff; grandchildren, Peyton and Lily Zachry and Taylor and Tanner White; daughter-in-law, Gayla; son-in-law, Larry; brother, Woodie Zachry and wife, Fran; brother-in-law, Dwight Hughes and wife, Emily; nieces, Beth McNamara and husband, Sean, Trudi Bills and husband, Steven, Sharron Withers and husband, Rocky, and Steffani Holubec and husband, Jason; nephews, Tim Hicks and wife, Jan, Paul Hicks and wife, Beth, Clay Hicks and wife, Penelope, and Woodie Zachry III and wife, GiGi; and countless friends and a lifetime of accomplishments
