Ivyl Richard Ferrel was born June 19, 1911 in Jefferson County, Iowa. He was the son of J.C. & Anna Mallams Ferrel.
He married Catherine Odell Smith 13 Sep 1928 in Jefferson Co. Iowa daughter of Seldon Ruckman Smith and Virgie Alice Nott and had a daughter, Alice LaVonna Ferrel. They divorced 22 Nov 1929.

His marriage to Wilda I. Huffman took place Nov. 28, 1935 in Fairfield. She survives. Other survivors include 3 sons:
Victor I. Ferrel, Fairfield; Paul A. Ferrel, Iowa City; Phillip R. Ferrel, Fairfield; and a daughter, Marcene M. McCarty of Fairfield. Other survivors include 11 grandchildren; four sisters, Elsie Crawford, Esther Stump and Elaine Bonnett all of Fairfield, and Erma Stump of Colorado; three brothers, Lloyd Ferrel, Fairfield; Bob Ferrel, Arizona & Floyd Ferrel, Bonaparte.He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
He was a farmer and a self-employed painter prior to his retirement and had lived in Jefferson county all his life.
