Laborer the Victim of Fatal Accident at the Pocasset Mill.
Stanislaus Bernier of 189 Central Street, was instantly killed Saturday night while at work on the flume at the Pocasset Mill. Above where he was working was a long plank one end of which was rested on a stone wall and the other end on a wooden horse. In some way the horse was moved and the plank fell, striking Bernier on the head and crushing his skull. A man who was with Bernier rushed for assistance and met Officer Timothy Sullivan, whom he asked to call the ambulance. This the officer did and also called Dr. Synan. When the doctor arrived he pronounced the man dead. Medical Examiner Buck was then called and he turned the body over to Undertaker Paradis. The accident happened at about 10 PM. Mr. Bernier leaves a grown up family.
Son of the late Paul & Emerence (Talbot) Bernier.
Husband of the late Malvina (Gagnon) Bernier whom he married on 01.24.1871 in L'Isle Verte, Quebec, Canada.
Stanislaus was a farmer (1881) northeast of Quebec City. The Berniers immigrated from L'Ile Verte around 1889 and settled in Fall River, Massachusetts where they worked in the Cotton Mills.

Cause of Death: Fractured Skull
Age: 53 years, 4 months, 23 days
Note: It has been determined that Stanislaus is not buried in Notre Dame Cemetery. He died 09.30.1899 and his wife Malvina purchased this cemetery lot in 1900. This conflicts with his death certificate which indicates Notre Dame Cemetery as the place of burial. It is suspected that he is buried in the Potters Field in the North Burial Ground in Fall River. The records for the North Burial Ground are very old, not complete and record very few names where ever recorded in the Potters Field section of the cemetery.
