Max was one of nine children born to Georg & Theresa (Stanglemier) Bauer. He spent most of his life in Gibbonsville as a hard rock miner and farmer. He married Lillianetta Angeline Nolen in 1904. They had two children; Alfred and Etta. His second marriage was to Hazel Evans in 1915. This marriage also ended in divorce. On March 31, 1922 he married Alice Mae DeAtley. This marriage produced nine children; Virginia, Harry, Maxine, Clarence, Carl, Kenneth, Charles, James, & Bessie.
Max died of Colon Cancer.
