World War II Veteran, US Navy & US Coast Guard

Rufus "Si" Drury, Sr., 90, entered into rest on January 16, 2009 in Hughson, California. He was born on May 15, 1918 to Mr. & Mrs. Roberdeau and Emma Drury in Flomaton, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Edwin Drury, Frances Harris, and Mary Sulya, and one step-son Roy R. Bourassa.

Mr. Drury is survived by his wife of 31 years, Della Drury; son Rufus Sizer Drury, Jr. and wife Valerie of Mountain View; step-children Debra Bourassa of Manteca, Joseph H Bourassa, Jr. of Tracy and Maurice M. Bourassa of Stockton; and one brother, William T. Drury of Mobile, Alabama. He was also blessed with two grandchildren, Eric Drury and Emma Drury, both of Mountain View; nine step-grandcildren, Danny, Brian, Amber, Michael, Joey, Brandon, Kenny, Chris, Nathan, Tyler and Matthew Bourassa.

Si was a resident of Manteca for 19 years. He was previously from Fremont where he was an entrepreneur. He owned many businesses throughout the Bay area such as Della's Dry Cleaning, High Hat Cleaners, and Della's Family Cleaners, just to name a few. Before owning several businesses, Si made a career of 22 years with the United States Coast Guard. While in the military, Si was a football player with the Coast Guard and a boxer under the referee of Jack Dempsey. Si also received six years education at Spring Hill College, Mobile, Alabama and finally graduating from the Coast Guard Academy. After moving to Manteca, Si enjoyed going to the Manteca Golf Course. He was passionate about the game of golf. Some say his life revolved around "his game." He made good friends at the golf course and worked as a marshal for many years. Throughout the years, Si enjoyed a good game of college football and was an avid 49er fan. He found the game of chess to be a challenge and enjoyed playing with the family and friends. Si was a people pleaser who always gave of himself. He will be remembered as a gentleman, a beloved husband, wonderful father and devoted friend.

Services for Mr. Drury are under the direction of the Manteca P.L. Fry and Son staff. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 24, at 1:00 PM at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca. Visitation will be Friday, January 23, from 1 to 5 PM at P. L. Fry Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at a later date at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park in Hayward.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to any Junior Golf Association for children.
