Sgt. William E. Annis served with Co.H 20th Maine Vol. Inf. During the Civil War of 1861-65, The 20th Maine was the Regiment who did the famous charge down Little Round Top, During the Battle of Gettysburg PA July 1st to 3rd 1863 On July 2nd 1863 When they had just about run out of Ammo they Fixed bayonets and with their Colonel Joshus L. Chamberlain leading the way They Charged down the Hill Routing The Confederates who we trying to take it. Thus doing so the 20 Maine saved the day and Col. Chamberlain was later awarded the Medal of Honor and promoted to Brig. General in 1864 Later He became the Governor of Maine,
Sgt.William E. Annis of Co. H took part in that Historical charge and was slightly wounded doing so.
