Services for James C. Brooks, of Liberty, who died Saturday, Dec. 28, 1991 at Jefferson Davis Memorial Hospital in Natchez, MS are today at 2 p.m. at the New Day Christian Fellowship Church in Liberty, MS with the Revs. James Lee Dawson and Julius Roberts officiating.
Burial will be in Byrd's Chapel Cemetery in Franklin County under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to noon today at Brown's Funeral Home in Liberty and from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
He was born May 14, 1909 in Bryson City, NC, the son of Rev. James Harrison Brooks and Hattie Victoria Brendle Brooks.
He was a member of New Day Christian Fellowship Church and a resident of Liberty, MS for 67 years. He was a carpenter and a farmer.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Larimore Brooks; two son, Candler Brooks and Leslie E. "Bo" Brooks; one brother Paul Brooks; one sister, Dollie Dixon; his parents and four grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Donald Ray Brooks of Liberty; five daughters, Esther Paretti and Faye Mullins of Natchez, Sylvia Holland of Meadville, Pauline Wilkinson and Rachel Kester of Liberty; five sisters Lula Gardner of Mebane, NC, Floy Parris of Bryson City, NC, Ruby Lebeaux of Wisner, LA, Pergie Bradford of Jonesville, LA and Effie Mae Freeman of Natchez, 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Michael Mullins, Joe Paretti, Nick Paretti, Joe Foster, Jim Foster, Lionel Brooks, Keith Brooks, all grandsons and Jimmy Dale Edwards.
Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Paretti, Donald Ray Brooks, Jr., James Brooks, II and Philip Brooks, all grandsons.
