MATHIAS KREBSBACH

Another of the pioneer settlers of East Brothertown, Math Krebsbach, passed away on Wednesday at Marytown at the advanced age of eighty-one years.
The deceased was born in Germany, June 8, 1840 and came to this country in 1856 with his parents who located on a farm in East Brothertown, which in the course of time reverted to him and on which he lived for fifty years. He was married in January 1857 to Catherine Gross who died in 1892. He remained on the homestead until 1906 when he retired from active work and moved to Marytown, at which place he made his home for 5 years. He then moved to St. Anna and after eight years stay they returned to Marytown to make his home with his son, Henry, where death came from old age.

Mr. Krebsbach was widely known throughout the southern section of the county and in this city where he made many friends by his genial personality and sturdy honorable character. He was a good farmer and a shrewd business man, making the farm pay and giving his family opportunities to build up homes for themselves. He was a practical member of the Catholic church and his generosity was known in the churches of Charlesburg, Marytown, and St. Anna during his membership there.

He is survived by four sons, Joseph Krebsbach of Sheboygan, August of Marytown, Anton of Kiel, Henry of Marytown and two daughters, Mrs. Fred Schalzen of Chicago and Mrs. John Winters of St. Anna. He also leaves fifteen grandchildren.

The funeral will be held this Saturday at St. Charles' church at Charlesburg, Rev. Fr. P. J. Nilles officiating and burial in the family lot beside his wife in St. Charles cemetery.
