EDITH MARY GALLOWAY was born on September 30, 1906 in Brooklyn, Washington. After her mother, Lula Josephine Wagner Galloway, died during a subsequent pregnancy in 1908, Edith and her sister Etta went to live with their maternal grandparents, Joseph Henry and Ettie May Wagner, at their Smith Creek farm.

Etta and Edith Galloway went through the first eight grades in a small nearby school house sometimes being the only two students attending. The family continued to live on the Smith Creek farm for several years following the death of her grandfather in December 1917.

About 1921 Ettie Wagner and her granddaughters moved to Lewis county where they lived on Cowlitz prairie for a short while, where Etta and Edith Galloway attended school. Soon they moved to Centralia where Etta Galloway graduated from Centralia High School in spring 1924. Ettie Mae Wagner died on December 24, 1924. Edith Galloway graduated from Centralia High School in June 1925.

Edith then attended Centralia Business College and was employed by the John Benedict Insurance agency. The 1930 census reports Edith living in the household of Jesse Louden and working as a real estate stenographer.

Edith Galloway married Benjamin Fay, a postal carrier, in June 1934, and they lived on Adams Avenue in Chehalis.

Following the premature and unexpected death of her husband in January 1950, Edith Fay returned to work in attorneys' offices and the Lewis County courthouse in Chehalis until her retirement at age 62 in 1968. Her long retirement was one of the happiest periods of her life. She had many friends and hobbies, traveled quite extensively, and lived alone in her own home in Chehalis until the last couple of months of her life. She died at the age of 88 in a Centralia hospital on August 29, 1995.
