James Gooden, who died in a Detroit hospital Thursday, January 17, was buried in Elkland cemetery Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the home in Detroit, conducted by Rev. Knuckles of the M. E. church, and the body brought to Cass City Sunday where short services were held at the chapel. Rev. George Hill officiated. Mr. Gooden was born in Iniskillen Township of Middlesex, Ontario, on October 28, 1857, and was married July 14, 1884, to Florence Atwell. Three children were born, Pearl and Earl O. Gooden, and Roy Lee, who died in infancy. The Gooden family lived for some time in Novesta and Cass City, and several years ago moved to 2957 Ferry Park Ave., Detroit. Besides his widow, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Frank A. Striffler, and a son, Earl O. Gooden, all of Detroit.
