MRS. CHAS. GOODEN DIED AT CLAWSON
Mrs. Chas. Gooden passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sanford Horner, in Clawson Tuesday morning, Feb. 8, after an illness of only two and one-half days with pneumonia. Her husband passed away Jan. 30th and she attended his funeral at Cass City Feb. 2nd and appeared to be in fairly good health. She celebrated her 69th birthday on Feb. 3, just a few days before her death.
Mrs. Gooden was born in Ontario and before her marriage to Chas. Gooden over 46 years ago, was Miss Eliza Getty of Ontario. She came with her husband to Lamotte Twp., Sanilac Co., in 1881, where they lived until about eight years ago, when they moved to Clawson and made their home with their daughter, where they made many friends.
She is survived by three sons and three daughters and several grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. One son passed away in February, 1921. Mr. and Mrs. Gooden had many friends who sympathize with the children in their double affliction.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Gooden was a member of Clawson M. E. church and Ladies' Aid society. In years gone by she was a faithful member of the Leek Ladies' Aid Society for many years, and was always ready to help in any way she could. The words of the text used by the pastor, Rev. L. N. Lord, of Clawson which were, "She has done what she could" seemed most fitting, as all who knew her could testify.
Funeral services were held at the home in Clawson on Wednesday afternoon and on Thursday the remains were brought to Cass City and services held in the M. E. church conducted by Rev. L. N. Lord, assisted by Rev. I. W. Cargo. Interment was made in Elkland cemetery.
