Sherman David Ducker, 92, of Pisgah Forest passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at Ivy Hill Health and Retirement Center after an extended illness.
He was a native of Averys Creek and Mills River in Buncombe County. He moved to Transylvania County in 1937. He was the son of the late Milton Ducker and Mattie Byers Ducker Gasperson.
He was a charter member of Ecusta Paper Corp and retired after 40 years of service. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of private first class with the Fourth Marine Division in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal for wounds he received in action by the commanding general of the Amphibious Corps and numerous campaign ribbons. He was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Mulene Ducker; two sons, Dennis Ducker of Brevard and Roger Ducker and his wife, Sonja, of Asheville.
