Mr. William Henry Barkley, 79, died early Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T.E. Evans, at Jefferson.

Funeral services were conducted from the home of his son, D.E. Barkley of Linden, with Rev. W.T. Edwards, Baptist pastor, assisted by Rev. M.T. Moore, Methodist pastor.

Mr. Barkley was born and reared at Octagon, Marengo County, where he had lived almost his entire life, except the past few years which were spent in Selma.

Mr. Barkley was a devout Christian, having served for many years as Deacon in the Baptist church at Octagon and as Sunday School Supt.

Interment was made in the Linden cemetery. Pall bearers were Messrs. M.E. Pritchett, W.E. Alston, A.B. Hinson, Joe Watts, Chas. Miller, and W.F. Gilder.

Surviving are: the widow, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Barkley, to whom he had been married 57 years, and six daughters, Mesdames Nettie Hinson, Pensacola, J.F. Lindsey and T.E. Evans of Jefferson; W.P. Perkins, Linden; Harry Dismukes, Shiloh and J.P. Webb, Selma; two sons, G.B. Barkley, Selma, and D.E. Barkley, Linden; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother and three sisters.
