---------------

Per Dean Lansing (his son)C. 1995: Neil Lansing broke horses in the Baker County Oregon area before and after 1920. He opened a Cash Garage in Halfway Oregon in 1920, after going to a mechanic trade school in Portland OR; and was known as "Shang". When times got tough in eastern Oregon, about 1925, the family moved to Coos Bay, Oregon. Neil worked at Coos Bay Lumber Co. Camp Two out of Powers. He was known as "Slim" Lansing from then on. He became a gypo logger within a few years. Curt Beckham mentioned him in one of his books. Neil escaped the Bandon fire of 1936 at Whiskey Run on the southern end of South Slough at Charleston (Coos Bay) by staying in the water. Losing all the equipment, the family headed south to the mouth of the Klamath River and logged up Pecwan Creek. Moving the family to Arcata, California, he continued logging. In September 1948, he died at the job near Bridgeville (Mule Creek) which was his son's, Dean, first logging operation.
