Oscar Eastmond Kitchen, 87, longtime Brown County peace officer, died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 1956 in a local resthome.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the London-Burton Chapel with Rev. Lee Nelson of Lane City officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery.
Mr Kitchen was born Aug 13, 1868 at Brevard, N.C. and came to Brown County with his family as a small child.
As a youth he was a cowboy in connection with cattle drives to
abilene, Kansas.
He served as deputy sheriff under the late Frank Emison before serving 28 years as constable here from 1909 to 1937.
His wife died March 14, 1952.
Mr Kitchen was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, O. B. Kitchen of Coleman; two daughters, Mrs. Jess Caffey of Cisco and Mrs. Roger Nelson Sr. of Brownwood; two brothers, M. L. of Brady and John Kitchen of Hilton.
