MARY EMILY FAY was born 8 September 1886 in Fayette, Washington Territory to Charles Taylor Fay and his first wife, Olive Joy. Mary Emily's mother, Olive, died on 26 September 1886 soon after Mary's birth.

Mary Emily lived with her paternal grandparents, Joel and Emily Fay, in Claquato as reported in the 1889 Territorial Census and again in the 1900 Federal Census.

The April 1889 W.T. census reported Mary Emily, age 2, living with her paternal grandparents, and the 1900 Federal census also reported Mary Emily, age 14, living with her grandparents, Joel and Emily Fay in Claquato.

Mary Emily Fay went from Seattle across the Canadian Rockies to Fort William on the Canadian Pacific Railroad from 2 to 5 September 1908. She married William Henry Littlefield, brother-in-law of Louis W Field of Adna, on 9 September 1908 in Buffalo, New York. Their daughter, Irene F Littlefield, was born in Cleveland, Ohio on 19 February 1910. The 1910 federal census reported Mary Littlefield living with her husband and daughter in the household of her husband's parents in Cleveland.

Mary and William divorced 24 Jun 1911; Mary and her daughter moved back to Washington State. Both Mary and William remarried. Mary's second marriage on 19 September 1914 was to Thomas Lacy Fishback, Adna farmer, who adopted Mary's daughter, then known as Frances Olive Fishback.

Thomas and Mary Fishback had a son, Thomas, born 18 November 1918 who died as an infant. Mary Emily Fay Littlefield Fishback of Adna died soon after her infant son at the age of 32 on 16 December 1918 in St Helen Hospital, Chehalis of uremia, and she is buried in Claquato cemetery.
