Son of Uriah Higginbotham (born 27 July 1786, Fayette Co., PA; Brother of Uriah 22 June 1831 - 12 Nov 1864. George and his brother, Uriah, ran a freight line from Leavenworth, KS to Ft. Rile by ox team called the "Higinbotham Boys Special". The ox yokes are said to be in the Riley County Historical Museum.

He was a delegate to the Leavenworth Convention in 1858 from Riley County, KS and helped frame a constitution for the state of KS.
